Redskins Draft Day Dash 5k

The third annual Redskins Draft Day Day 5k took place on Saturday, April 29th. The race started at 10:30AM at FedExField in Landover, Maryland. The late start time was great since it was about an hour to drive to the stadium.

Parking was in Lot A at the stadium. We parked pretty quickly and took the very short walk over to the pre-race party and start line.  The pre-race party featured the Redskins cheerleaders, HOT 99.5, and Redskins alumni.

We even found George Washington roaming around!

There were only about 3,000 runners, so we got across the start line pretty quickly. There weren’t corrals, but there were signs you could line up next to based on your pace.IMG_4491IMG_4496I was not a fan of the race course at all. It was really hilly and we pretty much just ran back and forth in one part of the parking lot.

The last 1/2 mile of the race was awesome! We ran through the stadium and the player tunnels to the finish line, which was inside FedExField on the 50-yard line.

IMG_4519All runners received a finisher medal after crossing the finish line. There was also water, chocolate milk, Gatorade, bananas, and granola bars. However, they quickly ran out of a lot of things.

We hung out in the stadium after the race for the annual Redskins Draft Day Party. The Draft Day Party had the 2017 NFL Draft on the stadium’s video boards, Redskins player, alumni and cheerleader appearances, photo ops with the Super Bowl trophies and live entertainment. All runners over the age of 21 could get a free Bud Light, but the line was way too long.

Overall, we had a good time, but I wouldn’t run this race again.
